Globe myBusiness joins hands with AFFI to promote franchising among Filipino employees

Guest franchise operators guides interested employees on how to become a franchise owner

In an effort to promote entrepreneurship in the Philippines, Globe myBusiness has joined hands with the Association of Filipino Franchisers, Inc. (AFFI) in bringing franchising opportunities to employees who desire to become business owners.

Franchising is a growing trend in the Philippines, thus, Globe myBusiness is upbeat on the numerous opportunities that the franchising industry brings.

Cleo Santos, Globe myBusiness sales head, pointed out that franchising is especially beneficial to those who need independence and flexibility such as company employees who are often stuck in the typical 8 am - 5 pm job. It is also a good start for those without any business experience since trainings and support are provided by the franchisor.  Likewise, franchisees could bank on an established product and do not have to engage in advertising to promote the brand.

Globe myBusiness also sees franchising as a means to provide employment and increase the rate of job opportunities.

“As the trusted advisor and partner of MSMEs, we want to inspire and educate our entrepreneurs, especially those who are venturing into their initial foray in business, on the potential and promise of franchising.  Franchisees can be assured that they can rely on Globe myBusiness on the technology front while at the same time, AFFI can provide them with the skills and business know-how in order to address any challenge that they may face,” said Santos.

Starting at its home turf, Globe myBusiness and AFFI conducted a one-day franchising seminar and exhibition called “Be Wise, Franchise!” for over 7,000 employees of Globe which was participated in by 26 franchising brands such as Aquabest | Laundrybest, Ate Rica's Bacsilog, Big Apple Express Spa, Cold Layers Cafe, Ecosteam, El Bonito's Pizza, G-Spot Burger Bar, Galileo, iFranchise, Kerrimo, Lucky Lulu, Maxi Mango, Mr. Softy Ice Cream, Nitro 7, Over Mango, Pomodoro Pizza, Ritea, Shanghai Siomai, Suds Laundry, Takeaway Sisig, Tokyo Tempura, Trueblends, Ahead, Adobo Connection, Zen Zest, Cyclehouse, and EC Gas.

AFFI President and Tokyo Tempura Founder Jorge Wieneke was joined by JC Martinez of EC Gas Michelle Velasquez of Maxi Mango, and Victor Fernando of Big Apple Express Spa in sharing tips and experiences to the employees to guide them in their franchising decisions.

The event is part of Globe myBusiness Saludo SMEs campaign which recognizes the important role that small and medium-size enterprises play in nation-building.

As the SME arm of Globe, it is the goal of Globe myBusiness to help every enterprise reach its full potential through industry-specific tips, lessons from experts in the field, and business solutions tailored to answer every business owner's needs. The brand launch events all over the country via Globe myBusiness Academy to offer business solutions and workshops, and work with experienced entrepreneurs to inspire newer business owners in honing their craft and making the most out of digital technology.  Learn more about Globe myBusiness by visitinghttps://mybusinessacademy.ph/.

Donate-a-book, share the gift of knowledge with the SM store

Just in time for the back-to-school season, SM shoppers can share the gift of knowledge through The SM Store’s SM Share Movement Donate-A-Book campaign in all branches nationwide. Ongoing until July 7, shoppers can donate books and school supplies to benefit school children of select SM Foundation supported schools. In exchange, shoppers will receive 50 pesos discount coupon for every donation made.

Earlier donations from the campaign, which was launched last May 20 were distributed to the Balanga Elementary School in Bataan where employee volunteers from the nearby branches of The SM Store In Pampanga and Olongapo shared a fun-filled day with grade 3 pupils. The SM Store donated books from Olongapo and Pampanga branches enough to fill up the mini-library of the two storey school building donated by SM Foundation. Bags and school supplies were also donated just in time for the back to school season. The grade 3 pupils of Balanga Elementary school were also treated to a story telling session by The Story Telling Project (TSP), a non-government partner organization of SM, with the aim to spark hope, inspiration and imagination through storytelling. In the session, TSP demonstrated how you can inject fun and enthusiasm in reading as a group activity to teachers, parents, and pupils. According to Rey Bufi, Executive Director of TSP, “we are aligned with the mission of The SM Store Share Movement Donate-A-Book campaign and Balanga Elementary School to make reading an enjoyable experience for children. It can help start the regular habit of reading in an age when children are often distracted with gadgets.”

Reading , especially for third graders is a very crucial academic skill because it is the foundation of learning, Amy Inieto, Principal of Balanga Elementary School, shared that in addition to their regular school curriculum, they have a program to reinforce reading habits of learners.

“The books donated by The SM Store through its Share Movement Donate-A-Book campaign will be put to good use. It will become part of our teaching instruments to reinforce the value of reading.” said Inieto. The SM Share Movement Donate-a-Book campaign is part of The SM Store’s quarterly donation drives- wherein it collects shoes, books, toys, and hygiene kits for identified unprivileged communities, including those impacted by calamities. According to Joseph Rosal, Senior AVP for Operations of The SM Store, “more shoppers are looking for ways to give back and they can do this through The SM Store.
We want The SM Store to become the venue for people to come together and foster the true Filipino spirit of sharing or “bayanihan.” The SM Store Share Movement Donate-a-Book campaign is ongoing until July 7 in all The SM Store branches nationwide. Shoppers can share new and pre-loved gently used books. The SM Store also accepts school packs and text books. In SM City Iloilo, you can find the drop station at The SM Store main entrance.

Globe Rewards customers donate P1.6M to plant 16,000 trees in Bukidnon

One of the areas in Bukidnon covered by HIneleban’s rainforestation program

It was a cause worth every peso and point.

Less than a month ago, Globe Telecom encouraged all its mobile customers to donate their 2018 expiring rewards points to help restore the Philippines’ primary rainforest cover via Hineleban Foundation as part of the company’s rainforestation advocacy. For every 100-point donation, (1 point is equal to 1 Peso), Globe Rewards users were able to fund one tree for planting and even give it a name.

The response was unbelievable! In just 13 days, the rewards points donated by Globe customers to Hineleban Foundation reached 1,600,300 points or P1.6 million, enough to plant 16,003 trees covering 16 hectares of denuded forest areas in Bukidnon. So far, it was the highest donation amount raised in the shortest number of days since Globe Rewards opened up use of rewards points for donation. Globe Rewards is the baseline loyalty program of Globe Postpaid, Prepaid and TM. Customers can earn points and enjoy exclusive offers by simply being loyal with Globe.

“We are happy to see our customers becoming part of our environmental sustainability efforts because we all need to be aware that everything is interconnected. For instance, if we bring back our rainforests, then we increase our ground water storage or aquifers, and in turn avoid a water crisis. The task is undoubtedly massive but we believe that these simple and small ways can go a long way in helping reach this objective,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications.

Hineleban (Hē-ne-leu-bän) is a sacred Binukid term literally meaning “Mother Tree of the rainforest that sustains the cycle of all life.”  The term was adopted by Hineleban Foundation, a non-stock, non-profit organization based in Bukidnon, Mindanao, whose vision is to ensure the nation’s water, food and human security by reforesting the mountain ranges of Mindanao, home to the country’s last watersheds, and are inhabited by Indigenous People (IP’s) and Bangsamoro communities.

Globe and Hineleban Foundation’s partnership began in December 2016 where they entered into a Sacred Customary Compact with the IPs as well as a Peace and Development role with the Bangsamoro People to identify steps to fulfil the dream of rainforestation. Together, they are currently reforesting 300 hectares of denuded primary rainforests, a fraction of the 44,000 hectares surveyed and targeted by the Foundation in Bukidnon and Lanao del Sur. The program is structured into five phases over a five-year period, lasting until December 2021.

The reforestation process begins with the planting of calliandra to quell acidic cogonal grass. This is followed by the planting of tree species that are ideal for agroforestry, including Brazilian fire trees and Caribbean pine trees. Intercropping then becomes the objective, with 600 indigenous tree species per hectare planted to secure the area as a permanent watershed. Some of the species grown are almon, bagtikan, mayapis, apitong, red lauan, palosapis, white lauan, olayan, katii and nato. Hineleban Foundation’s reforestation methodology is internationally recognized, having received the Grand Prize Award for best project in the forestry sector from the Agricultural Research Centre for International Development and the French Development Agency in 2015.

Aside from Hineleban, Globe also pursues other environmental sustainability advocacies such as paperless billing, responsible electronic waste recycling, marine biodiversity conservation workshops for sustainable business practices, 'Wag Sa Single Use Plastic education campaign tackling the adverse impacts of plastics on the environment, among others.

Globe, likewise, supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal of Life on Land which is centered on protecting, restoring and promoting sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation and biodiversity loss.

Globe and Hineleban Foundation continue to accept donations for rainforestation via hineleban.org/donate/.  For more information about other sustainability efforts of Globe, please visit Globe of Good and follow Globe Bridging Communities on Facebook.
